Determining Your Ice Storage Requirements
There are many factors that can affect how much storage your ice plant will require, including ice making capacity, number of days of operation each week, and rate of use. A good general guideline is to take the daily ice production of a flake ice maker and multiply by 1.5 or 2.0. For example, 30 US tons of daily ice production x 2 days = 60 US tons storage. Most operations run five days a week with a weekend shut-down. This allows approximately two days of ice maker operation during the weekend for storage of ice for the next week’s ice operations.
