Choosing the Best Freezing Surface
for your Application
North Star offers two freezing surfaces in our line of industrial flake ice makers – stainless steel and carbon steel. Both offer distinct advantages depending on the application in which they are used. Stainless steel is recommended for most food applications because it is corrosion-resistant and easily sanitized. Carbon steel offers high capacity production for non-food applications. Both types of solid steel freezing surfaces are superior to chrome plating, which can flake and peel.
THE ADVANTAGES OF STAINLESS STEEL
- Worldwide acceptance as the superior material for food processing equipment
- Easily cleaned and sanitized
- Corrosion-resistant
- Stable, non-reactive and non-absorbent
- Highly durable under continuous use
- Recyclable
THE ADVANTAGES OF CARBON STEEL
- High capacity ice production
- Economical
- Corrosion-resistant while ice maker is in use, and with proper protection when not in use
- Highly durable under continuous use
- Recyclable
